Bastards of The Revolution: A Novel by Pres Maxson is an amusing work of fiction that re-writes history. We follow Erin Ashford, a young teaching assistant whose history department has just been shut down. Following a night at the bar with her friend Kyra, she is given a box of papers. Inside is the diary of Addie Essex who may probably be the most infamous woman in history. In the journal, Addie talks of her exploits with the founding fathers of the United States, including Paul Revere, Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Andrew Jackson, and many more. She even kept souvenirs, which lead Erin and Kyra to Philadelphia to try to find the treasure. It is there they are kidnapped by none other than the bastards of the revolution themselves. These are men descended from Addie Essex and all the famous men she had affairs with. Their goal was to find the treasure and then invade England. They want to claim their birthright and everything that goes with it. What will Erin and Kyra do? How far are the bastards willing to go and will anyone find the treasure?
Bastards of The Revolution by Pres Maxson is one of the funniest books I have read in a long time. I loved the diary entries and how playful and nonchalant Addie was as she went about her escapades. The details were sultry and humorous. One could see how she could get herself into trouble. The bastards were a hilarious bunch and from their bear tackling to the milkshake fiasco, it was a pleasure to read. The funny parts were the everyday bits and the manner in which everyone talked and presented themselves. This is a book that is hard to put down. I found myself blushing at the exploits of Addie Essex and the fact that the bastards existed because of her. Their pride is on the line and they need the help of the British to find the treasure. It’s a hilarious book with a lot of comical scenes and I think anyone would enjoy this. I highly recommend this book to those looking for a good read. It’s amusing and captivating at the same time and has something for history buffs.
