In Baggage: A Memoir of Travel That Went Off Script by M.B. Clare, the author has taken the adventures and travels that she and her husband Nick embarked on during the course of their marriage and turned these notes and emails into the most enjoyable account. The author is a traveler who will pack as much into her trip as possible, even to the point of forgetting to eat. But the best part of the memoir is how the author is always on the hunt for bargains when planning her and her husband Nick’s trips. The reader actually can imagine the amount of planning and checking to see what places of interest there are to see in every place they visit. This in itself is quite a feat. Most people go to a destination for a break, lazing on the beach or around the pool with a little sightseeing, but nothing as much as M.B. Clare packs into her trips.
Baggage is a lovely, light-hearted read that will hold your attention from the first page to the very last and will leave you wanting more. The author does not leave out the problems and the things that go wrong, even on a well-planned and executed trip. Reading this memoir brought back memories of my one and only trip abroad to Italy with my daughter. It was also packed with sightseeing and some memorable meals as we found places that the ordinary citizens of Rome frequent and that is where we went for the most delicious meals at half the cost of the places that cater to tourists. Thank you, M.B. Clare, for this delightful memoir. It is a very relaxing book and well worth a second read. I loved the photos that appeared from time to time; they were most unusual and interesting. Baggage: A Memoir of Travel That Went Off Script is a must-read!
