Baffin’s Sister Swap Scandal is from the Dragonasaurus Tales series by Josephine Young. Baffin spends all day building a spectacular sand castle. He is admiring his masterpiece when an unfortunate event occurs. His little sister Floss jumps on top of the castle and destroys it. Baffin is so angry that he cannot speak. He grabs Floss with the intent of taking her home. Along the way, they see a stork flying, and Floss tells him that the stork delivers babies. Baffin decides to swap his annoying sister for a brother instead, and follows the stork. But the journey is long, and the siblings decide to rest. Baffin wakes up and discovers Floss is missing. He searches for his sister and wonders if a cruel monster took his sister away. Baffin realises how much he misses Floss, but will he get the chance to tell her that he loves her a lot?
Small kids will find Baffin’s Sister Swap Scandal very amusing. Kids sometimes have similar thoughts like Baffin, especially when they are upset with their own brother or sister, so the story feels natural. I love the clever rhyming structure of the writing. Josephine Young writes nicely and manages to tell a good tale using fun and lively rhymes that kids will enjoy repeating. It really is a great way to get kids to read. The other books in the series should also prove amusing.
