Howie Junkie’s Backpacking Junkie: How to Backpack Around the World by Yourself is a short guide, but is chock full of information for those readers who are wanting to immerse themselves in another land, and do it on a cheaper budget. The tone of this how-to guide is one that you will instantly connect with, its voice is on the personal level. Howie Junkie gives you step-by-step instructions on what sorts of things you will need to keep in mind before picking a destination, and what to expect and pack to take along with you, once you have settled on a particular place.

Backpacking Junkie: How to Backpack Around the World by Yourself by Howie Junkie made me think differently about how I usually travel. I have never personally been the type that wants to crawl completely out of my comfort zone, but I will say that this book makes me want to attempt an immersive experience in a foreign land. The tone of the writer is so familiar that you are a bit saddened when coming to the end of the book. Backpacking Junkie makes you want to experience what life holds for you outside of your regular day to day existence. For others out there, life might be grand, but some of us might be searching for a bit more. Given the information in Backpacking Junkie and how advanced technology has become regarding language barriers, I don’t see how I could go wrong traveling in this manner. It is my opinion that if there is anyone out there looking for that special book to help steer them in the right direction when it comes to traveling lightly, then look no further; Backpacking Junkie by Howie Junkie is that book.

I travel a lot and even though I have learned a lot of tips and tricks over the years, I know that continuing to learn and improve it the best way to save money and have more fun while on the road. Right away I was introduced to some new last minute fare sites for flights that I hadn’t heard of before. I’m pretty excited to try these out since I need to get to Malaysia from the USA in a couple of months and that can be a pretty tricky route to figure out cheaply. The rest of the book offers great information for people who are looking to start backpacking.

It can be very overwhelming to try to research and gather all the information you need, but this book does a great job of covering what type of backpack to buy, how to pack it, where to stay and how to stay on the road. Although I have to disagree with the author Howie Junkie when he tells girls that make-up is a waste of space and weight, the rest of the packing advice is solid. Good basic how-to backpack book.

Traveling is quite expensive, so it is quite refreshing to read a book that offers content that helps minimize the cost of travel. I am always traveling, so reading Howie Junkie’s book on how to backpack around the world is extremely helpful. Not only does he go through picking your backpack for your travels, but he also goes through cheap transportation and lodging options. Many of the lodging options he recommended I was aware about, but the options are some of the best lodging options out there. As a traveler, I also recommend using CouchSurfing and Hostels, which he explains more in depth. He also mentioned Travel Cards, which are very useful when traveling and will save you a lot of money. I really enjoyed this book because it goes through the important aspects of travel, which is great because not everyone knows how to travel hack and this can really save you money during your travels.

This booklet is very detailed with its suggestions for how to go backpacking. It provides websites, specific methods for saving money. It tells you what to pack and how. It talks about everything and even gives prices for equipment such as the right phone, dependable gps, etc. I was awed at how much information was actually covered in such a short book.

What was really surprising was how much money you could actually save by using the methods the book talks about. One example is to use a website to sleep over at someone’s place for free. I would never think that such resources are available. Apparently they are and they are gathered into this one place for easy reading.
