In Austin Heat: The One...Who Undid Me by Amari Nylix, Jake was enjoying his off-season after playing in the NFL. The media had tarnished his reputation due to his past flings. However, when he became a godfather to Jordan’s daughter Jasmine, he turned his life around. While at the gym, he saw an alluring woman at the water fountain. He found her smile beguiling and her accent enchanting. When he tried to get Rakell’s attention, he was quickly put down by her dismissal of him as boring eye candy. Rakell was an expensive escort and had learned to disassociate herself from feelings of attraction for any man. However, Jake’s determination to gain her attention broke down her resolve. Neither of them revealed their occupation for fear of judgment. Could they achieve a normal relationship?

Austin Heat shows how being famous isn’t always an advantage in relationships. Amari Nylix created a romance that felt realistic. Jake wished for a regular relationship where the woman was not enamored with his NFL status. Rakell’s job required that she remained out of the limelight. I think that she didn’t want to give up her life as an escort because of her living standards. The conversations with Jordan and Delilah felt natural and showed how they were trying to encourage Jake to avoid a potential heartbreak. The alternating viewpoints between Jake and Rakell were easy to follow. I could connect with Jake’s character because he was genuine with his feelings. The end provided an opening for a sequel that I am eager to read. I recommend Austin Heat: The One...Who Undid Me to fans of relatable romance stories.
