Athena Finds Her Confidence is the second book in the Taki & Toula Time Travelers’ series, written by Elena Paige. With the help of their magic time-travelling shoes, siblings Taki and Toula go back in time, ending up at the Acropolis in Greece. Athena and Poseidon engage in a contest of talents and of wills, the winner of which will have the city named after them. Poseidon’s gift initially results in many cheers, but is quickly booed by the crowd. With her own confidence waning, Athena gifts the only thing she can... with surprisingly shocking results!
I have never read a children’s tale filled with so much wonder and joy. Elena Paige’s tale of two gods embarking on a talent contest of sorts is indeed one which piqued my interest. Confidence is something easily shaken, and with Athena throwing in the towel before the contest even begins, the twins did a great job in boosting the goddess emotionally, making Athena discover that she has far more to offer than she could ever realize. The feel-good factor of the story is what makes it so wonderful; the story rings true in real life as well, with people of all ages and all walks of life simply needing to believe in themselves in order to achieve their dreams.
Taki and Toula hit the right note in the pep talk they gave, allowing the Greek goddess to surpass even her own expectations. Elena Paige has certainly produced a book filled with spark, spirit, love and friendship, and I applaud her talent. I wholeheartedly recommend Athena Finds Her Confidence to readers aged 6-12, so that they can also discover how self-belief is the key to any victory.
