ARV-3: After Light Saga Book 1 by Cameo Renae is a young adult science fiction story about surviving a zombie apocalypse. A few survivors of the apocalypse hid in underground bunkers for the last thirteen years and are returning to Earth for the first time to take stock of the situation. The goal is to rebuild, but the survivors assumed they were alone. One such survivor is seventeen-year-old Abigail Park. Before the destructive apocalypse, the government distributed ARV, an anti-radiation vaccine to the people left above Earth who did not have access to the underground bunkers. The vaccine worked to an extent, and left Earth covered in radiated, mutated, infectious half-humans who outnumbered the bunker humans trying to rebuild. When Abigail and her family head back to the surface to reclaim the land, they realize there is an even bigger fight waiting for them.
This is a really cool zombie apocalypse story that will appeal to all readers of science fiction or who love a good zombie story. But this isn't just a typical zombie story. The story is also about Abigail's end of the world preparing family, and their experiences underground in the shelter before they return to Earth. The plot is engaging, fast paced, and authentic. The characters are interesting and well-written. There is also a nice romance included that takes away from some of the story's horror and really humanizes the characters.
