What will the year 2153 have in store for humans? That is the concern of Collin F. Barnes in his breath-taking novel "Artificial Evil". In a context where controversies arise regarding the survival of mortals in an immortal techno-world, the writer attempts to herald the future on a scientific basis. The fiction focuses on the catchy concept of the lifespan of a man, being determined by the requirements of artificial intelligence. It is backed up with logic, which makes fiction repleted with verisimilitude. In the world portrayed in "Artificial Evil", men have to die, when the limited Oxygen quota for them ends. That is how they make their contribution to the smooth functioning of 'City Earth'. The common boomerang effect of technology applies and the doom of death lottery falls on the inventor of the lottery system, Gerry Cardle. The novel explores the paradoxes of modern scientific advancements which confine humans to the level of mere victims. Barnes points out how the evil in human conscience, such as hatred and betrayal, finds wings in artificial evil.

The novel is an attempt to interlace the realities of human sub-consciousness with the theories of science and the concepts of religion. The clever plot is enhanced by well-developed characters steeped in both fantasy and science. Author Colin F. Barnes successfully bonds fantasy and science for a believable story that will enthrall fantasy lovers. It is this combination of reason and fantasy that keeps the reader glued to the pages until the very last one is read.
