An Empty God by Edward Eaton follows the story of a young Godling as he navigates the trials and tribulations of being a God. In his infancy, the God stayed away from the beasts far below, who served the dark Gods. He indulged himself with the wilas and the satyrs of his lands until an older Goddess took him under her wing and taught him the ways of the Gods. But then, the humans came, who were prone to violence, war, and destruction. The human tribe called Bav named him Dravpruk, and later, he became known as Drauk. After living with the Bav for a period, Drauk sees his lands invaded by humans who serve other younger and more destructive Gods. Meanwhile, the jealous God from the east has turned his eyes to Dravpruk's domains. Is his time over?

Thematically rich and epic in scale, An Empty God is a captivating tale of a God's rise and fall. If you're a fan of epic fantasy such as Neil Gaiman's American Gods, this will be right up your alley. Edward Eaton offers readers a rare glimpse into the mind of a seemingly all-powerful God who is mesmerized by the unpredictability of the mortals. Through an absorbing narrative, the author captures humanity's essence in a way that makes you wonder about its future, perfectly encapsulating the good and the bad and everything in between. On a smaller scale, I loved the friendship between Kusra and Doegess. This is the kind of story you ruminate about long after you've finished the book. Overall, this is a brilliant fantasy novel. Highly recommended.
