America: Standing Strong by Robert J. Emery is an examination of topics and forces which are stressing our republic and our society, leaving many Americans feeling depressed, disenchanted, and disconnected from institutions, organizations, and individuals they no longer trust. These topics include the loss of civility and common sense, racism and guns, the pandemic, the environment, the Black Lives Matter movement, the 2020 election and attack on the Capitol, misinformation and social media, and our changing demographics. He counters these with a discussion of our government, democracy, and the Constitution, offering common-sense solutions and hope for our future. Quotes from many sources and links for further reading are provided. The John Eastman Memo and the draft executive order to seize voting machines are also included.
In America: Standing Strong, Robert J. Emery gives us a thoughtful, energetic, and well-organized narrative that addresses many current issues that polarize our country. His goal is to motivate and challenge the reader to move past anxiety, frustration, and partisan divide on these issues and work toward a hopeful future. “Times are changing,” he writes, “and just maybe, all is not lost.” Warning against the demonization of those who think differently from us, he urges civil discourse at all levels; research into facts, issues, and candidates to make informed choices at the ballot box; and taking our right to vote seriously, among other things. Many of the quotes are inspirational. No matter where you fall on the political spectrum, Emery offers valuable food for thought for us all.
