All Manner of Murder by June Woolerton is the first book in the Cara Carter Mysteries. Cara Carter wants a simple vacation, but she knows it's a long shot with her two friends and their loud children. Her peaceful trip is off to a rough start when she gets stuck in traffic, and takes a worse turn when her best friend invites someone she doesn't get along with to stay at their cottage. To top off her vacation, she's drawn into a murder investigation at the celebrity wedding of actor Bay Nelson and fashion designer Soraya Whittaker.
Gossip is a key component as Cara finds herself talking to reporters, police, staff at the hotel, and others that give their opinions about the murder and the celebrities. What started as an annoying vacation becomes a new path for her future. Perspectives shift throughout, rounding out the story and allowing time with multiple characters, from the bride and groom to the cop investigating the murder. June Woolerton has a zany style, and almost every character has a quick banter. Cara's friends are often obnoxious, from the screaming kids to the screaming husband to her best friend that doesn't seem to watch her children. As they take the best rooms, often make her watch their kids, and send her on errands, it's easy to dislike her friends and wonder why she even agreed to a vacation with them. All Manner of Murder is a fun read with a smart lead, gossip, sleuthing, and murder.
