Alice by Bibiana Krall is a short supernatural story about a young girl, Bibiana, who works at a homeless shelter: Beth Manna. As Bibiana checks the list, she notices a resident who has no other family, a rarity in Beth Manna. Bibiana is a former Catholic who fell out of the religion as work and college dominated her schedule. Alice, the resident who is alone, is a strange woman with timeless features that gossip always seems to find due to her possible mental illness. Bibiana finds herself second guessing her slow falling away from the church as the mysterious, odd but beautiful Alice informs her that a visit is demanded from the other side.
Alice by Bibiana Krall is a supernatural thriller as the character Alice’s reputation of being insane follows her even to a homeless shelter. The other characters in the story are easy to understand as we all have a similar circle of friends, from the sweet former churchgoing girl to the gossip-monger who judges everyone and the misunderstood, mentally ill woman. I loved the ride through the plot with the tiny events like the blaring radio and the smell of sulfur that lead to the supernatural phenomena. Alice by Bibiana Krall is a well-developed thriller in which Alice's strange behavior will get the heart pumping. I hope that the author has many more short supernatural stories like Alice in store to share with those who love a twisted tale as much as I do.
