Agenda by Ron Sherkin is a mesmerizing thriller with elaborately developed characters and a plot with surprising twists. When Jericho Asher left his work as a spy after the death of one of his colleagues, it was a no-turning-back decision. But then the Agency comes looking for him again with a new and delicate mission. Asher and his friend, Haymishe Elfman, are the only ones the Agency can trust, especially now that there is a mole. But things get complicated when the pair is introduced a Chinese MSS agent, Natasha Lee, someone Asher is meeting for the first time. Tasha has her own agenda, and she spells trouble. The conflict escalates with a betrayal that comes from a least expected quarter. Can they make it out unscathed?
Ron Sherkin creates a narrative with an international setting that takes readers through different countries, but it is the way the twists are introduced that readers will enjoy. In the first place, Asher is sought out from his hiding place in Thailand because there is a mole in the Agency, but one of the most trusted persons in the Team will stab them in the back. The idea of the traitor being someone the protagonist completely relies on is beautifully and ingeniously developed and the reader is keen to follow the naïve thought process of the protagonist. Agenda is ingeniously plotted, featuring very compelling characters and pulsating action. The writing is atmospheric, and the entire narrative is cinematic. This is one of those books I have read and felt as though I’d just watched a movie.
