Jack Collins leaves behind his comfortable career at a Connecticut law firm to make it big in New York City. He joins Reynolds & Harris, one of the city’s top firms, and gets to work with the legendary Ted Parker. He’s even more impressed when he gets to work closely with senior associate Deb Miller, and for Ted’s biggest client, deceased senator Harold Walker’s wife Abigail. But, things aren’t as rosy as they appear. Everyone is hiding secrets and Jack starts to feel like a pawn in a deadly game. Who can he trust? Is he being used, and is his life at stake? And, what really happened the night the senator died? Jeff Cooper’s debut novel After The Fact will tell all.

I’m a huge fan of legal thrillers and, for a first novel, After The Fact by Jeff Cooper ticks all the boxes. New York City is the perfect setting for this book, and the characters are as real as you’d expect to find in the legal world of the Big Apple. It’s a fast-paced page-turner and I finished it in a couple of sittings as I had to find out what was going on. Jack Collins is a protagonist every reader will want to cheer for, and the final chapters are heart-racing. There’s very little legal jargon, so new readers to this genre can stay up to speed with everything going on. After The Fact is excellent and I’m excited to read more from Jeff Cooper.
