After, the first book in the After Series penned by Samantha Gregory, is an action packed wild adventure with two young people, Jenna and Wesley, in an ultra-modern zombie filled world, where best friends can turn into worst enemies. After is a brilliant piece of horror fiction from the zombie genre that will attract all readers interested in this category of fiction. As for the story, Jenna is a teenager who has an unearthly power running through her veins. This power can make her a great warrior or a demon. It is a story about a huge military organization in America trying to create ‘the perfect soldier for battle’ and on the other hand to destroy the zombie race and keep the survivors for further experimentation. After is about a world gone crazy which is no longer safe as long as there is the threat of terrorist groups and zombies on the loose. Other main and powerful characters are the drug addict Wesley, Jenna’s father Tom, the muscled man Lewis, and many other amazing characters that keep the narrative upbeat and at times terrifying.
Samantha Gregory is a wonderful author and her works are intriguing. She manages to pull off a great work of fiction in this first book of the After Series and I can’t wait for the next instalment. After is a fast paced narrative in a simple prose form, which brings to life her spellbinding words. After is a quick read but it tends to remain with you after you read it to make you ponder about what possibly could happen next. Samantha Gregory is surely a master of suspense for the new generation of modern day horror story lovers. Gregory has managed to create a wonderful thriller with characters that one can easily identify with. Samantha Gregory can consider After as a job well done.
