A Tale From The Forest: Welcome to the Neighbourhood is a work of fiction in the fantasy genre. It is suitable for readers young and young-at-heart and was penned by author James D. Robinson. Set in a picturesque English forest, the book follows a group of animals as they investigate a mysterious object that has dramatically fallen from the skies and landed in their home. What they find is something that compels them to help it avoid being captured by a group of dangerous mercenaries who have invaded the forest at the behest of a sinister organization to recover the fallen package before it can be returned.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story which managed to be both whimsical and tense in seemingly equal measures. The cat and mouse game between the animals and their hunters as they battle to control the mysterious package that fell from the sky was well-conceived and excellently described by author James D. Robinson, who has a natural gift for engaging prose. I particularly enjoyed the character of Rab the Elder who leads the animals in their adventure. It’s a difficult thing to write a book that is as entertaining for children as it is for adults, but A Tale From The Forest succeeds elegantly with a story that I, as an adult, enjoyed reading but also one I could see myself reading as a bedtime story to a child of any age. I’m happy to recommend this book to fiction (and animal) lovers of all ages.
