A Slow Burn, book two in the Defiance Texas Trilogy is a story of love, hate, redemption, forgiveness, and hope. When I first started the book I thought it was an inspirational mystery. The plot of this story took a different path. I have not read the first book in this trilogy, Daisy Chain.
In A Slow Burn, Emory’s daughter Daisy was murdered. There were no suspects. Emory was set on a course of destruction into a world of pain, loneliness and despair.
Hixon Jones, the neighborhood handy man, receives a divine intervention from God to marry Emory and bring her out of the depths of sin. He was facing a challenge.
This then is not your typical Christian fiction. This book delves deep into the soul of a woman on drugs and committing sexual immorality. It demonstrates a woman’s pain, lack of faith and redemption We wonder why a person uses drugs. Sometimes it takes hitting rock bottom before we can turn to God. This book reminded me of Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers. It is the fictionalization of the story of Hosea. A Slow Burn is not a quick read. It is one you will want to savor.
