A Shift in Perception: The Lost Traveler is a science fiction novel by author David Marrocco. Its central character is Cru Ketis, who is currently living on the planet Shar whilst Earth faces totalitarian control and invasion. Down on the other planet, humans are trafficked like cattle, sorted from the alien beings living amongst them and transported to prisons. Within one such prison, Linda, Sofia and Betsy reside. Young Betsy is separated from her mother Linda, who has only Sofia to console her, but all are being kept alive for one specific reason: Cru is Betsy’s father. Desperate to be reunited with his family, Cru is about to face the end of the world as we know it, all for the recovery of the ones he loves.
The novel mixes some interesting religious themes with science fiction, wherein the human race is asked to keep believing and keep the faith in the face of the apocalypse. The government system and alien races which David Marrocco has created are interesting and well thought out, and Cru Ketis is a hero that we can relate to even from the first page, when his happy memories of his family are destroyed by nightmarish reality. The prose is often beautiful. A Shift in Perception: The Lost Traveler is sure to please science fiction fans who also enjoy the man-on-a-mission sub-genre, and want to see plenty of action and space related intrigue.
