A Secret To Kill For is the first book in the Secret and Lies series by T.N. Lowe and I loved everything about the book, from the gorgeous cover to the cunning plot to the exceptional characters. FBI agent Erin is happy with her life. She is excited about the work she is doing now, investigating a serial killer. But her life takes a dramatic turn when her boyfriend, a journalist, lies on a story which makes her lose everything. She starts all over again, rebuilding her life in a small mountain town in Colorado, but then she learns that her family has a dark secret.
The twists in the story are powerful and dizzying. Erin is just a normal girl who wants to fight crime and working for the FBI seems like the greatest thing that ever happened to her. But then the one person she trusted betrays her. When she learns that her own family has kept a dark secret from her, it's a blow that is as devastating as it is unexpected. The protagonist is well developed and the emotion that accompanies this narrative is built around her. I loved the way the author handles the conflict. At first, it is external, a protagonist helping to catch a killer, but it quickly becomes internal the moment betrayal sets in. T.N. Lowe has the gift for plot and character. The prose is excellent, composed of realistic and engaging dialogues, timely paragraph breaks that make for dramatic effect, and stunning descriptions. A narrative that deftly explores the themes of family secrets, betrayal, and crime, A Secret To Kill For is an engrossing story with an unpredictable plot.
