A Rift Between Cities is the conclusion to Liz Delton's The Arcera Trilogy. Once abandoned by the Four Cities of Arcera, Seascape is now a technologically advanced island that might be the only hope for the collective folk of the Four Cities to thwart an ambitious man's plans for unification and save countless lives in the process. When Sorin Greyling captures Sylvia Thorne, Atlan Blackwater has to come up with a plan to save her. With a mother that watches his every move and assigns Black Knights to be at his side at most times, his task may prove difficult to accomplish. Meanwhile, trapped in a prison inside Skycity, Greyling tries everything he can to get Sylvia to talk about Seascape. Will Atlan get to her in time?
Given that the author allows readers to follow many different characters, including the villain, this is an exciting book. Even close to its conclusion, the author keeps readers guessing as to how all the pieces will come together. I found nothing predictable about this book at all. The battle lines are pretty much drawn already, but the battle itself still has to happen. Readers will enjoy the little romances that develop between certain characters along the way. Besides, through Seascape, the author offers some pretty imaginative tech for fans of science fiction. The final battle and everything that led up to it are well executed. Having found this book fascinating and enjoyable, I would recommend it easily to the reader who enjoys young adult fantasy trilogies.
