A Reason to Shine is a story that will teach children to be proud of their abilities. They will learn to accept themselves as they are and develop healthy self-esteem. The story is about Lucy. She is a star who was happy to shine at first. But once she saw the reflection of the night sky in a lake, she understood that there were many more stars around. This situation made her question her need to shine since other stars could also illuminate the sky. Then the moon explained to her that each star had its reason. Lucy set out on a journey to Earth to find her purpose, but things were not as easy as they had seemed. It was only when she encountered some flowers that she understood more about herself. Thea Eliss shares a message that will help children learn to focus on their strengths.
A Reason to Shine is an inspiring book that will help many children accept themselves. The narration is easy to follow, and the illustrations are striking. I liked the light effects shown in the images. The color palette creates a night with a magical environment, although the images are simple. The book has a deeper meaning that children will be able to apply to their lives. Young readers will relate to Lucy because we have all been through times of disappointment. There are occasions when children compare themselves to others and begin to doubt themselves. Thea Eliss teaches them to feel more confident and seek to do what is best for themselves and others.
