A Predator and a Psychopath is a work of chilling psychological thriller fiction penned by author Jay Kerk. Playing on the tricks of the mind and how frightening these can be, we find ourselves following the journey of mental patient Jason. Recently admitted, Jason is coaxed by the treatment of his doctors to begin to understand himself in ways he never thought possible, whilst unlocking secrets deep within his own mind. It’s difficult to trust whether the stories are new, or simply being unlocked from a shut-off past, and that’s enough to drive any man insane. Written for adults, the book contains graphic violence, sexual references, and explicit language.

Author Jay Kerk presents a true psychological thriller in the sense that everything is stripped back from the story except for the central character, Jason. Though we understand the narrative of his life and past events through the treatment he receives at the institution, this masterful work of character studies breaks narrative convention to focus on the workings of the mind itself. I loved the split in Jason and how fragmented he becomes the more he seems to remember and unlock. There were key elements of real psychological principles in there, showing how extensive Kerk’s research really is into the dangers of the psyche. The plot is graphic and unapologetic, making A Predator and a Psychopath a novel for those who really have the stomach for the dark truth of what a broken mind can do to a human being, and it achieves this goal with style and excellence.

In the mood for some thrills, chills and twisted minds? Pick up A Predator and a Psychopath by Jay Kerk, arm yourself with your favorite relaxation beverage and don’t read this one in bed…unless you enjoy nightmares. Neither the predator nor the psychopath is someone you’d like to meet, but, for all you know, they could be your neighbors. One of them, Jason, ends up in a mental institution after being suspected of murdering his wife and having an unnatural love for his daughter. The problem for Jason is he can’t remember what happened and can’t accept he is guilty. But once he’s out, he’s determined to find out the truth. The other character is Jerry, and he’s really quite despicable, not just because of his unquenchable taste for sex, but because of his narcissistic belief that he has a divine mission on this earth to create more humans like himself. Please spare us the pleasure of more Jerrys! He is one thing the world doesn’t need.

Kerk introduces readers to the predator and the psychopath in two separate stories, but bit by bit, he brings them together through the remainder of the book. Do Jason or the reader ever find out if he was indeed guilty of what he’s accused? And what of Jerry? Does he get to impregnate enough females with his seed to fulfill his mission? And how on earth do these two come together in an explosive ending that is anything but expected? Read this thriller to find out. Forgive yourself for shuddering throughout and after you close the book. That’s what a good psychological thriller should do! My kind of book for sure. If you’re a fan of Criminal Minds, you’ll like this one too.

Jason is confused. Why is he in a secure unit and where is his family? Has he been admitted to rehab or is it more serious? As the details emerge surrounding his situation, he must deal with the horrors his mind has been protecting him from. His terminally ill doctor and his best friend Luke seem to be the only allies he has left in the world. Can he clear his name and find his remaining child, or will he have to face the truth and admit he has a dual, and possibly murderous, personality? Meanwhile, Jerry is stalking women and planning how to make them his alpha female. He envisions a world where boundaries are broken down and he is free to mate and reproduce at will. Technology allows him the freedom to interact with women and use his position of trust to play with their lives. A Predator and a Psychopath by Jay Kerk is a chilling account of these two men and how they view modern society.

This is a harsh reminder of the horrors that the human mind is capable of. We are naturally programmed to trust people and A Predator and a Psychopath by Jay Kerk is a brutal reminder that we must do more to protect both ourselves and those more vulnerable members of society. Jason is a complex character that is hard to understand. I felt sympathy at times and then found myself believing him to be guilty. Jerry, on the other hand, filled me with real fear in the way he manipulated people and abused their trust; he painted the picture of a true predator and a real danger to society. His belief that he is entitled to his views rang true and summed up a violent psychopath. Be prepared for a thrilling final chapter and some potentially sleepless nights!

A Predator and a Psychopath: A Dark and Twisted Psychological Thriller by Jay Kerk is, as the subtitle says, a gripping psychological thriller with a compelling protagonist, a novel with a strong appeal to readers who enjoy dark and complex psychological themes. In this novel, the author explores the topography of the psyche of a psychopath, a sick mind that is torn between the gray area between fantasy and reality. Jason is in a psychiatric hospital, a place he calls a prison. Under the care of Dr. Thompson, whom he hates with every fiber of his being, Jason tries to understand why he is in this place. While he feels physically restrained, he also experiences a mental prison, aware that there is a secret lodged in his mind. Can he figure out who he is and why he is in this dreadful place? And how can he get his freedom? There is a lot at stake and so much darkness to discover.

Jay Kerk has crafted a spellbinding psychological thriller that has great potential to entertain readers. It feels like a story coming straight from the mind of a seasoned psychologist, filled with drama and interesting dialogues. The narrative takes readers through a harrowing path, filled with surprising turns and questions about the inner workings of a sick mind that will keep readers thinking. A Predator and a Psychopath: A Dark and Twisted Psychological Thriller is brilliantly narrated, a cunningly plotted novel that immerses the reader in a twisted mind and the complicated world of psychiatric medicine. I loved every bit of it.

Very good, I thought this was the best worst book I ever read. I say this because it kept me hooked even in the most disturbing parts (Jerry). I give this 4 starts because even in its worst moments I still enjoyed it, if a sequel is written I will read it. However I wouldn't recommend this book to even teenagers or children and there should be more of a warning or something.
