H.D. Hunter's A Magic Door and A Lost Kingdom of Peace is a collection of short stories, all completely different from the next, that had me drawn in from the first page! Each story is fantastic and he is a wonderful writer. The first chapter titled Southern District was my favorite. Hunter pulled me into the horrific, but in its own way, beautiful world of depression. I found myself saddened when I came to the last page. I can see these characters playing out before me as if I were watching a movie, so well developed and colorfully written was each scene.
There is literally something in Hunter's book for everyone, from adult readers, young adult, to even a story that I would read to my children, a fable with a fantastic character named Cat Bassie. There are lessons to be learned and such a sweet tale that I know my children would have loved the cat characters. The romance stories are true to life and make you feel as if you have been there and, oh yes, you've done that or at least known of those who have.
When I read Hunter's book, I felt as if I were sitting on a porch somewhere listening to an older person tell me fables. Hunter is such a story teller. I recommend this book to a broad range of readers, young adult to adults, and parents can share the one story with their children. I give H.D. Hunter a standing ovation and five stars. Bravo, H.D. Hunter. Thank you for A Magic Door and A Lost Kingdom of Peace in which I got to know such wonderful new characters.
