A.J. C. Mackey wrote A Dream Come True, an expose on schools, administration, and teaching. Having worked in the school system briefly, I witnessed many of the things Mackey speaks of.

There is definitely a lot of political intrigue in the school system. Teachers do not always work together. Often the teachers work against each other. Having worked at 4 different schools, I witnessed one school where communication was excellent. I saw two schools in total disarray and one school that was in the middle. In my opinion, there is a lot of reasons for the disarray. Jealousy and backbiting among the teachers, lack of support from administration, lack of properly trained teachers, and parents can be a teacher’s nightmare.

Not everyone desiring to be a teacher is called to be one. An excellent teacher may not make a good administrator. Pressure is coming down from the top and teachers are being crushed under the weight. I have subbed and can tell you from personal experience that it is not easy. I will not do it again.

A Dream Come True is well written. I was immediately caught up in the experiences of Ms. Carmen. I laughed at the descriptive names of some of the teachers. A Dream Come True is an eye-opening book. Mackey wrote this tiny book, hoping administrators will read it.
