This book transports the reader back to the old west. The setting is Coal County, Wyoming. Jeff McGuede, Sheriff of Coal County, has an abundance of murders to solve and is constantly breaking up a fight. Just as he gets one solved, he is confronted with another. Each chapter is a different mystery that confronts the sheriff. The main characters are the same throughout the book.
This was an interesting read and, being from Wyoming originally, I feel the writer had a fair knowledge of the land. The one thing that distracted me from the book was the way the sheriff was always getting ambushed from behind when he came upon a crime scene. All in all, it was a delightful afternoon read and a different sort of mystery. This is the first book I have read by Ms. Britton and Ms. Jackson and I think I`d like to read more of their books.
