At the age of eighteen, Rachel was married off to the much older Sir Denby. When he died five years later, Rachel was cast out with nothing because she bore him no heir. She was barren, they said. Her desperation for financial independence made her strike a deal with Viscount Julius Arleigh. Rachel would marry Julius for three months, upon which he could claim his substantial inheritance as stipulated in his father’s will. Julius wasn’t interested in getting married because of trauma from the past, and Rachel could not care less about men and their problems. But when the heart jumps into the fray, and the terms of the deal become muddled, will their resolves stand? A Dangerous Deal by Philippa Jane Keyworth has all the details.
A Dangerous Deal by Philippa Jane Keyworth is a beautiful novel set in the 18th century in England. It will appeal to lovers of historical romance. The plot is unique and intriguing. It portrays the challenges women of that era faced. They had no control or say about their lives, especially in marriage and education. Women who grew backbones and seized their destinies were labeled deviants and improper. Philippa created impressive characters, especially Rachel. I love strong, vocal, and intelligent women, and Rachel displayed these qualities, making her the perfect main character/protagonist. However, there are other characters that I loved to hate. The Feltons were my recipe for laughter, and I loved them. A Dangerous Deal was well written, easy to follow, and maintained great dialogues. Philippa should write more.
