A Cold Dark Place is a story of unrequited love. Luke met him at an old friend’s house. From the moment he shook hands with Andy, Luke knew he loved him. Luke was from an abusive home. His father had cherished him, encouraged him and embraced him as special. His mother remarried shortly after his father’s death. She stood by quietly while his stepfather beat him. Shelly (Shells) and her family were kind to Luke and befriended him. Andy was a married man, a straight married man, in an abusive relationship. Luke and Andy became best friends. However, friendship wasn’t what Luke desired. He wanted to be loved.
A Cold Dark Place is exquisitely written by HD Hatcher. This story proves that love knows no gender. The plot is well done. The characters are well developed and multifaceted. There is just the right amount of humor included in this tale to keep the story from bogging down. This is a sad tale. I wanted Luke to be happy. Hatcher is a brilliant writer he manages to bring his characters to life on the pages of the book. I truly cared about the characters. I will be watching for more books by this author.
