In Joseph Lupton's A Clucktastic Beginning, Joseph transforms into a necessary superhero to protect precious vegetables, animals, and products. As Pickle Man, he faces Stir Fry Guy in a spicy showdown. As the Rat Of Justice, he must save cheeses from their soy imposters, the Feline Of Doom, and the Rodent Eradicator. Joseph’s skills are needed as Chicken Man to protect Poultryburg from the Chicken Chef and avoid getting butchered or barbecued. His friend Hen-rietta calls him to save chickens from Crock Pot Man. The Fowl Man has a new invention called the Slice-inator that he intends to use on Chicken Man first. After bribing the chicken warden, Crock Pot Man returns to exact his revenge on Chicken Man and Hen-rietta. Chicken Finger Guy escapes his prison inside a crystal to take Chicken Man out once and for all.
This wildly entertaining collection of short stories centers on Joseph as he changes from one superhero to another to protect the vegetables, animals, and cheeses he cares about. Each story by Joseph Lupton has a new or returning villain that wants to destroy Chicken Man or claim his friends as part of some culinary creation. I love how Joseph is ready to transform into whatever alter ego is needed at the drop of a corn kernel to serve the greater good. I recommend A Clucktastic Beginning to any young reader who loves action, superheroes, and laughs. I hope for more short stories by Lupton in the near future.
