In A Carriage Ride Home by Sandra H. Esch, Oliver M. Harrington, a young nobleman, is about to introduce his fiancee Emily, a commoner, to his parents. This meeting does not go well and Oliver is forced to choose between his parents or the love of his life. He picks Emily with no regrets. Unfortunately, she and their unborn son are soon involved in a fatal carriage accident. Oliver suffers only misery and pain and believes the best way to move on is to leave England and visit Emily’s family in Amber Leaf, Minnesota, America. When he gets there, he receives a warm welcome from family members Deacon, his wife and his sons. He quickly finds work as an attorney and soon is in love again, with Gretta, his office assistant. Sadly, Gretta is already involved with Nelson, another of the attorneys. Oliver works hard and takes on many difficult cases. He finds himself in several situations, including being kidnapped. He slowly has come to love Amber Leaf and the people he now considers true friends, but pines for Gretta and regrets that she cannot be his. When he finally receives a letter from his estranged parents, asking him to come home, he believes that this is the best thing for him to do and begins his plans to return home to London. Carriage Ride Home has many twists and turns and surprises, and to tell you more would be a spoiler.
A Carriage Ride Home by Sandra H. Esch is everything good. The story transported me to London in the year 1896. A Carriage Ride Home is historical, fictional, Christian and free of unnecessary sex; just a perfect romantic story. Sandra H. Esch is a fantastic storyteller that pulled me right into the book from the first word and I cheered and booed, laughed and cried, right up to the very last sentence. A Carriage Ride Home is a five plus winner and well worth a read. Esch has risen to the top of my favorite author list and I cannot wait to read more of her writings. I highly recommend this to all fans of history, romance and just a good story.
