A California Mail Order Bride: Miss Lizzy & The Highwayman by Katie Wilde is the story of Lizzy, a woman who is scared to remain single. She is a teacher and she loves the children she teaches at her school. However, she is scared of being single all her life, but she is not going to accept defeat. When she reads an ad by Louis Dawson that he needs a wife, she packs her bags and decides to go meet him. What happens next was not expected by anyone, least of all Lizzy.
On her way to meet with Louis, she is held up at gunpoint by highwaymen. However, she is saved by the very brave and very charming local town sheriff, Luke Atkins. Lizzy did not expect to feel so much attraction for the sheriff and she is definitely not ready for it. Luke is not looking for love or a partner, but they cannot help themselves. However, when she meets with Louis, he is so very different from what she expected. Who is the right man for her? Who is the man she is destined to be paired with? Or is she destined to remain a spinster?
This was a loving, adventurous and very romantic novel that I thoroughly enjoyed. A California Mail Order Bride was not what I expected, but in a very good way. I loved Louis and I really liked Lizzy as well. Yes, she did frustrate me at times, but she had her reasons and I respected her for that. This is a historical romance that anyone who loves clean and pure romance will love.
