A Butterfly's Demise is a supernatural psychological thriller by Ethan C. Knight. Best friends and university students Sharon and Lily are skeptical of anything to do with the supernatural. However, on a warm summer day in Detroit, they visit a medium where Sharon has a tarot card reading. But the encounter doesn't end up being fun when the medium predicts Sharon's death. Disturbed yet curious, Sharon and Lily find themselves in a tattoo shop where they get matching tattoos of a butterfly on their wrists. A few hours later, Sharon receives threats from a cult member on an internet forum and then, inexplicably, is kidnapped and tortured to death. Now it is up to Detective Jameson to solve the case and punish the perpetrators. However, unbeknownst to Jameson, he will soon embroil himself in something he doesn't fully understand.
A gripping psychological thriller with a tinge of the supernatural, A Butterfly's Demise is a breezy read you can probably finish in one sitting. I know I did. Author Ethan C. Knight concocts a captivating story doused in mystery, intrigue, and suspense, and you find yourself flying through the pages to see what's going to happen next. Sharon's murder is heartbreaking as it opens up the story as a murder mystery with the introduction of Detective Jameson. Knight doesn't go overboard with the supernatural elements and incorporates them subtly as an added flavor to the overall narrative. I very much enjoyed the book, and if you like psychological thrillers, you will too.
