Belinda and the Witch’s Cat by Margaret Pearce is Book 1 in her new Belinda Robinson series. Belinda Robinson is an only child, and it seems that with her father’s work, they are always having to move around. That makes for a lonely girl as she never gets a chance to make friends. Now with her mother being sick and having to go away for awhile, Belinda is really going to be lonely since she has no friends at school. When she learns her grandmother is going to come stay with her while her mother is away, Belinda is elated. She never knew she had a grandmother. And what a grandmother she turns out to be! When she shows up with her cat Senna, things seem to change. Belinda gains new friends, takes a ride on a vacuum cleaner and a old Persian rug, and best of all, changes her father back from an old bear. Life is full of adventure now.
This is a very cute short story that any girl from age 8 and up will enjoy. I enjoyed the adventures of Belinda and her two friends, Kate and Amanda, along with her grandmother, Matilda. When Belinda finally discovers why her grandmother is so unusual, can she keep it a secret? One has to keep reading to see what is going to take place next. This is a great fantasy that will make one eager to read the sequel to Belinda’s adventures when it comes out.
