A Beautiful Season: Finding Your Identity in Christ After A Dating Relationship Ends by Alexandra Savage relates the story of a broken relationship and the effects it can have on a person’s life. It looks at what the Bible says and contrasts that with life experiences. The book looks at life priorities and the way to live a Godly and Christ-focused life rather than a life that is self-centred and based on emotions and feelings. The book examines situations that can divert a Follower of God from His Word and teachings, and looks at ways to cope with and overcome crises that may come our way.
The author, Alexandra Savage, very cleverly compares well-known stories such as Peter Pan and Wendy to current day relationships, and examines how Wendy’s life changed when she met Peter, but eventually she returned to her family and her home. This analogy worked really well to explain the turmoil and uncertainty that can face someone dealing with a relationship breakdown. The book uses a number of analogies which help to clarify the feelings and emotions that can be experienced in such a situation.
There are Bible references to support the writer’s observations, and the book is written well and structured well with the result that it offers hope of a future not relying on earthly needs and desires, but a future centered on Christ. This is a book that examines our innermost feelings and can encourage a Christian to rely fully on God in all walks of life. The reference to ‘Seasons of life’ is particularly appropriate and will certainly cause anyone who seeks closure in their life from a painful experience to turn to Christ as their Comforter.
