“5-Step Marketing Plan to Get More Customers, Referrals & Make More Money: A Winning Marketing Strategy for Small Businesses” by Violet James debunks two myths about this pivotal business practice: (1) marketing is mandatory and (2) every business owner can easily achieve results with a little know-how. According to James, marketing is the act of communicating the value of a product. This explanation logically leads the reader through five results-oriented steps. Knowing your competition, finding a need and filling it can be the beginning. You will want to learn more as you read page after page of marketing-savvy tips. And if that isn’t enough, her comprehensive resource guide reads like a Who’s Who about the industry.
I expected this book to be much like any other marketing book lining the shelves of any bookseller in America. I was wrong. As I read it, I kept wondering about the author – predictably, she must be a seasoned pro. She speaks in simple terms but has included the lingo of the marketing world. She gives the reader step-by-step instructions and assignments that could be completed the same day. However, she only gave one real-world example/illustration; I wanted more. James is a prolific writer, entrepreneur, marketing manager and web designer with over 20 years’ business consulting experience. Other books include “Simple Truths to Personal Success: You Can Have a Winning Attitude for Life.” No doubt, we will be hearing more from James in the future.
