489: A Short Story About Forgiveness by Beyr Reyes is about two men and their journey towards forgiveness. It is told from both of their perspectives and gives you a feeling that their lives connect, but you are not sure how until almost the end of the book. The story starts off with the depressed state of one man who is getting drunk and the other watching from a white room he deems as Heaven and with God. As the first man's story unfolds, you watch the second man's reaction and hear God's commentary on the story and why things are taking place. The ending will have you gasping in surprise and hopefully vowing to extend some forgiveness to those around you as well as to yourself.

This book is a very easy read. It took me less than one hour to complete. It was very interesting and some of the theology behind it has left me thinking about things in my life. Its strength is that it gets to the point quickly and helps you to see the importance of forgiveness in Christian life. The weak spot is in the characters. Because of its conciseness, the story does not deal with much of the characters' lives and, when it does, it is short and not very detailed. It does not delve too deeply into the motivations and the back stories of the characters. Instead, it focuses on current events and will help the reader see the point clearly.

In conclusion, if you are looking for a short parable that makes its point quickly and concisely, this is perfect for you. Use it for a Bible study, a family devotion, or just simply to while away a quiet afternoon. You will not be wasting your time if you take a spare hour and read this very powerful short story.
