Mark Kingston Levin's 30th Century: Contact is Book 3 of a series which sweeps the reader into an incredible adventure through space-time in a race to save life in our solar system. This epic endeavor is triggered by a chance discovery made by Jenny Heros, who travels forward in time to the 57th century, where she discovers that a natural phenomenon has had a devastating effect on the planet we call home. To counteract this threat to our very existence, humanity has to call on all of its resources, past and future, and develop an artificial intelligence capable of saving everything that we now take for granted. Will this AI carry out its mission as planned, or will any number of unknown factors intervene to prevent the catastrophe that awaits in our future?
Mark Kingston Levin has created a truly epic book in 30th Century: Contact. He has incorporated extremely difficult concepts, including time travel, artificial intelligence, genetic engineering, and first contact, into a smooth, fluid story that is enjoyable to read without getting overwhelmed by complexity. I particularly related to the underlying message of hope, where the saving force of life itself appears to be love. The power of love can transcend barriers of race and species, extending to all life, being naturally conceived or artificial. This concept affirms my own belief that humanity must move into the future with love as our driving force because artificial intelligence is inevitable and will look to us in formulating its moral compass. Vesta Two is how I want that future to unfold. The alternative could resemble the Terminator.
