This book is about the paranormal, but it’s something to intrigue readers. Scott is a typical middle-aged guy who’s just trying to live his life when things happen that are completely outside of his control. If you’re interested in the paranormal and some action and adventure, you’re going to like this book because that’s what’s going on in Scott’s life. What’s really interesting is that he may not be your typical hero, but he’s going to make a difference and make his mark on the world with these types of powers. There’s a whole lot going on and there are plenty of characters, from Scott and Dr. Blackwell to Tom and Gracie, so readers will have plenty of people to root for. You’ll also have plenty that you can boo at as well, since not everyone in this story can be the hero, after all. Ben Sharpton's 2nd Sight is definitely an interesting read.

When a parapsychologist named Dr. Paul Blackwell offers to help him control these visions and use his ‘gift’ to help others, Scott sees a way to gain some stability, especially when he got laid off from his job. The two begin an extraordinary journey of challenges and discovery, but Scott and his wife, Grace, wonder about Blackwell’s true motives.

There are several genuine struggles and thought-provoking matters in the story, particularly when Scott has to do his job and give employees their walking papers when his company has to downsize. Ironically, he receives his own walking papers on the same day. When Scott decides to work with Dr. Blackwell, there’s a question of how far should one go in the quest for truth without abandoning ethical responsibility. Sharpton fleshes out the characters well. Their fears and conflicts are realistic. This validates the premise even further as well as gives more depth to the plot. The clear and concise prose gives way to a solid narrative. The story is well-paced overall, although I felt that the first portion of the story could have a slightly faster development. All in all, 2nd Sight is a nice blend of paranormal, drama, mystery and suspense. I look forward to reading more of Sharpton’s work, particularly in the mixed genre concept.

This book is a page-turner, from the first page to the last. The characters are complex yet believable, and it is not always clear who the villains and the heroes are. Although there are some complicated entanglements, the author’s clear and concise writing style makes this a fast-paced, easy read. The reader is given just the right amount of descriptive details. Additionally, there is some very interesting information about paranormal experiences. Ben A. Sharpton’s fictional work, 2nd Sight: Capturing Insight is a unique and enthralling novel. This book is especially appealing to readers who enjoy learning more about the paranormal, served within a sitting-on-the-edge of your seat, adventurous format!
