Mary DiTosto's 25 Reasons Your Dog Isn't Eating is the first book in the Happy Healthy Dogs series. The series is aimed at dog owners who have absolutely no clue about dogs and struggle to understand the most basic issues you can face as a dog owner. Some dogs sometimes refuse to eat, and considering that dogs often seem to have bottomless stomachs, a loss in appetite can be alarming, especially if it goes on for more than a couple of days. If you are a new dog owner with no previous experience, then it will be hard to have a clue about what the problem might be. Is the food not tasty? Is something wrong with the dog's stomach? Is the dog already full for some reason? This book examines a variety of reasons why a dog might not be eating - and all of the reasons are not health-related, so dog owners who suspect a dog might be sick are advised to seek the help of a vet right at the beginning of the book.
Mary DiTosto's 25 Reasons Your Dog Isn't Eating would be ideal for people who just don't understand their dog's behavior and have never read any books about dogs before. I am working for a breeder of dogs for people with special needs, and some of the dogs here have special needs, too. I've learned a great deal about dogs and their behavior and, so far, my experience is that a dog only stops eating for a very limited number of reasons (owners being the main reason, which then branches into a variety of owner-related sub-categories). I can recommend this book to novices in dog keeping. While their dog might never experience any of the 25 possible issues in this book, it can be very helpful for owners to know about these problems - as knowing about something can help you with preventing that the problem ever occurs. For a short overview over eating related issues, this book is excellent.
