Zoomarble: A Madcap Space Romp by Adam Swetnam throws siblings Joey and Clarissa into a completely ridiculous, over-the-top adventure when they realize their new town isn’t just full of weird neighbors—it’s also the front line of an alien invasion. Suddenly, they’re not only dealing with school and fitting in; they’re part of Earth’s defense team, whether they like it or not. Along the way, they get tangled up in interstellar politics, cheap alien investors trying to cut corners, and all kinds of bizarre situations that turn the idea of being a hero completely upside down. This book is a hilarious mix of sci-fi and comedy, packed with nonstop surprises and sharp humor that keeps the story fresh and unpredictable.
Adam Swetnam has a real knack for balancing absurd humor with solid storytelling. The world he builds is wild and unpredictable, but everything still makes just enough sense to keep you hooked. He plays with classic sci-fi tropes in a way that’s both smart and really funny, making the whole adventure feel fresh. The characters are just as entertaining as the story itself—no matter how crazy things get, Joey and Clarissa stay relatable, and you can’t help but root for them. The pacing keeps things moving fast while still making space for clever moments and character growth. What really makes this book stand out is how it works for both kids and adults without dumbing anything down or watering down the humor. You can tell Swetnam had a blast writing this, and that energy is contagious.
Chance Carrasco’s narration takes an already fantastic story and makes it even better. His ability to give each character their own distinct voice and personality keeps everything engaging, and his comedic timing makes the jokes land perfectly. Even in the most action-packed scenes, he keeps the energy up without losing clarity, making it easy to stay immersed in the story. The production quality is top-notch, with clean sound and pacing that enhance listening without ever being distracting. Overall, Zoomarble is an absolute must-listen for anyone looking for a fast, funny, and completely unpredictable sci-fi adventure.
