Your Mama Loves You: A Touching Tribute to the Timeless Bond Between Mothers and Babies by Kealy Connor Lonning is a heartwarming children’s book. The love that a mother has for her child is masterfully portrayed on every page. Children are reminded that their mothers love them, no matter what, and are there to support them in their endeavors. The illustrations by Lora Look are simply stunning. Various habitats and the different animals that make those areas their home are vibrantly portrayed. Notably, most of the animals are presented as loving mother-and-child combinations. For example, some scenes include mothers hugging, kissing, and playing with their offspring. Lonning, the mother of six delightful children, has penned a touching children’s book that all mothers can use to demonstrate their love to their young readers.
Your Mama Loves You by Kealy Connor Lonning was a delightful read. I appreciated that Lonning wrote the story from the perspective of a loving mother talking to her child. I can easily imagine mothers and their children bonding while reading this book. I loved that the text comprises a long poem, consisting of several stanzas. Each quatrain begins with “Your mama loves you…” and follows an ABCB rhyme scheme. The use of emphasis and rhyming contributes to making each verse memorable. I liked that the names of the different animals were provided. My favorite illustration was that of a mama Amur Leopard and her cub in a snowy landscape. I highly recommend this book to all parents and children.
