Being a child, learning the ups and downs, joys and sorrows of this world is difficult. From the first time a child falls, to the first confrontation with a mean bully, there are many times when fear and tears rule the day. But a simple voice reminding the child that they are loved, and have been loved since the day they were born, is a healing balm for the troubled, fearful heart. We are all children, even when we become adults. And we all need the same reassurance from time to time. Life isn’t easy and, when the going gets tough, a gentle voice reminding us that we are loved goes a long way in soothing troubled thoughts and feelings.
Cynthia James’s picture book story, You Are Loved, is filled with the simple reminders of the reasons why all of us are loved. Directed toward young readers, the beautiful illustrations and gentle verse that carry this poignant message form a real treasure for readers of all ages. Like Robert Munsch’s Love You Forever, You Are Loved is a tender presentation of the most emotionally touching sentiment: love, a timeless classic. This is a very moving story that will definitely tug at the heartstrings of child and adult alike. The power of love shines through and can teach all of us, young and old, how important we are. It is a gentle but profound reminder that we are all loved. A powerful message in a compassionate presentation of illustration and verse.
