Would You Grapple With a Grizzly? Safely Crossing the Road by Danny Reyland is a rhyming book for younger children which can be used to teach youngsters about the dangers of crossing the road without taking an adult's hand. It contains brightly colored illustrations that show children each of the questions asked. (Would you grapple a grizzly? for example) The pictures help bring the story to life and I think children will enjoy looking at them and it will help them interact with the story. There is humor in the book that they will enjoy and it is easy to grasp. I think children aged between 3 to 6 or 7 would enjoy this book.
Danny Reyland chooses some interesting examples in Would You Grapple With a Grizzly? Safely Crossing the Road. These include would you wear a beehive full of bees or bounce a hippo on your knee. By showing these as ridiculous concepts, it helps to reinforce the idea that a child should not cross the road without taking an adult's hand. I believe the book has great marketability, and with time I think kids will memorise the book and be able to recite it themselves. It would be a good way to teach children to read too. The only issue I have is that the main character in the pictures is a boy. I doubt this would put girls off reading it, but it may have helped to include both boys and girls in the artwork.
