As indicated in the title, Wise Tales From the Jewish World: The Essential Collection by Uri Kaplan is a book full of wise tales. In fact, there are 55 tales in the book, and it is the second in the Wise Tales book series. Wise Tales From the Jewish World starts with a parable with the characters Truth and Parable in the foreword. It is to show that it's much easier to convey truth through charming parables. Indeed, this is the way Wise Tales From the Jewish World conveys wisdom, through short stories, and the sources of the stories are listed. The book ends with a list of references for further reading.
Wise Tales From the Jewish World by Uri Kaplan essentially contains tales from the Jewish tradition. The tales are short and well written – some of them only cover one page, while the longest covers a few pages. Hence, they are easy to read. All of them contain wisdom that is good to ponder upon, and the wisdom is general in nature. Hence, Wise Tales From the Jewish World is suitable for readers of both Jewish and non-Jewish traditions. The scope of the tales in Wise Tales From the Jewish World is wide, ranging from “The Long Spoons” which is related to Heaven and Hell, to “Peace and Truth” which is related to God and humans. There are also tales of arrogance in “The Alias of Evil”, and on wisdom in “The Ugly Rabbi”. Overall, a recommended read for those who are looking for wisdom.
