Author Biography

Winter Watch is Anita Klumpers’ first novel, but she has previous experience writing skits and short plays. These have been performed for dozens of audiences and hundreds of people. Lately she has been doing some technical writing and editing and content marketing. Romantic suspense is her favorite genre, especially when a bit of humor is interjected. In an attempt to make the world a tidier, more civil place, she blogs as The Tuesday Prude. Anita lives with her husband and mutt in south central Wisconsin. Spare time is spent meddling in her grown children's lives, spoiling grandbabies, teaching drama class and acting in an independently produced movie.

No good deed goes unpunished, at least that's how it seems to Claudia when she travels to the eccentric northern Wisconsin town of Barley to uncover the owner and secrets held by an old watch. In Winter Watch, Claudia ends up stranded in Barley due to what else but a winter storm. Claudia finds that there are plenty of interesting things in Barley aside from the story of the watch, including a cast of kooky characters that bring this northern town to life. Anita Klumpers has shown a talent for taking the smallest details and animating them so you truly understand what each character is about and it made Winter Watch a much more enjoyable romance and mystery to figure out.

When it comes to stories like Winter Watch, the tale and the mystery often take a back seat to the larger than life characters who help you figure the mystery out, but that wasn’t the case here. It wasn’t the ‘bigger than life’ qualities that made Ezra, the Justice of the Peace and dogcatcher so lovable, but rather his quirky normalcy. There’s a blind guy, a hot mess of a slobbering dog, and an old flame and not forgetting the town itself. Then there’s the actual story of the watch, complete with its own rich history, as well as other mysterious vandalism and even a murder to contend with. Throw in those northern Wisconsin snow storms and you've got a high quality mystery with a hint of romance and a heaping helping of small town charm. Anita Klumpers knows how to tell a good story and she isn’t afraid to throw in a bit of craziness to get it told properly!

Yes, yes, and YES! I love this book :) An instant favorite. After reading the ebook, I ordered the paperback. I wanted to thumb through it like a treasured family album. I can't wait to read more from Anita Klumpers.

I enjoyed this engaging story, and appreciated reading about people I could relate to, people who don't spew out profanity or vulgarity at the least provocation, and who endeavor to lead lives true to their convictions. Finally - a book that I can recommend to friends without qualifiers about aspects of the content, knowing that they will enjoy it!
