Here is a delightful high fantasy story that will surprise the reader, anyone from pre-teen to adults. I enjoyed the history for the newness it has. I have never read a fantasy book where people turn into dragons and vise versa. There is a good amount of detail in the tale, but it doesn’t feel overwhelming.

When Ellery reaches fourteen years of age and becomes an avid dreamer, her life changes completely. One moment she is talking to a stranger, the next he is giving her a trinket for her pretty neck. That is when everything takes a turn, bursting into the most interesting tale of them all. Ellery is taught by Merkin, a wise old man, who manages to help her learn all the important things in life. He has the feeling that she is a special girl and would bet his beard on it. So it is no surprise to him when Ellery leaves to join the troops of the king in exile. It seems appropriate when he finds her there, now a messenger to the highest captain in the new army. What he didn’t foresee is the danger she will encounter, not from their enemies, but from the very king she is devoted to.
