What is it, really, that defines a woman? Is it her body? Her mind? Does it have something to do with when she comes of age? When her cycles begin and her body changes? Or is it the way that she loves? The way that she cares for others? As Donna Spencer aptly wrote in the introduction to her short story, Lights, Camera: “At some point in every little girl’s life, she will make a conscious decision...every precious little girl will decide if she will take center stage or dwell in the background.” Not everyone wants the spotlight, as the author wrote, and as her plot developed, we understand why her protagonist held back from the spotlight, wanting only to catch up on the years she had lost while imprisoned in a coma. Life has a profound impact on all of us and each little incident defines who we are.
Where’s My Tiara? is a collection of short stories by various authors, written by women of all different backgrounds, beliefs, sexual orientation and more. Each story, in its own way, defines who we are as women. It defines womanhood to its core. The stories are profound, deep, insightful, sometimes humorous and always very poignant. The stories speak of diversity, maturity, woman troubles, abuse and love in all the forms in which it manifests itself. They speak of women as children, women coming of age, women in relationships, women in trying situations, and each story unveils another power that defines the woman; all women.
