Where Have I Been All My Life? How I Finally Grew Up After a Life of Putting Up, Giving Up and Shutting Up by Lisa Benson is an irresistible can't-put-down self-help book wrapped in a memoir. This "Little Miss Perfect" had brains and a plan. She thought she had her life all mapped out in the best ways possible, but when she reached thirty-something, she found herself merely accepting less-than. Looking around, she realized she couldn't find her dream anymore. Lisa ended up in an unsatisfying job, a relationship with a man with control issues, and she couldn't figure out why. Then she began to take a hard look at herself and understand. It took an unexpected event to do something about it. She realized she hadn't been living the full life she was meant to live and began a self-examination of her life, choices, motives--everything. She didn't leave out factors like childhood, a trauma that touched generations, and her MO of putting up, giving up, and shutting up.
Benson fearlessly takes you on her journey, which invites you to begin your own journey, to discover who you are, why you do the things you do, and how you can overcome mistakes and misconceptions, and experience what it means to be free and real, instead of fearful, anxious, hurting, and ashamed. Like the author, you don't have to settle for mediocrity anymore. You can do something about your pain and have joy and peace. The good news is that it isn't too late, and you can start your journey now. This book is a powerful message of self-care and positive change. If you've ever found yourself unhappy because you live to the expectations of others instead of your true self, you need the clarity and guidance of Where Have I Been All My Life? by Lisa Benson.
