Where Did My Doggie Go? Coping With Grief Through Imagination: Children in Grief, Volume 3 is a children's storybook written and illustrated by Tracy Wayland, and dealing with social issues. The narrator in this tale is a little boy whose dog has died. He doesn't really understand what that even means and tries, through a series of imaginative exercises, to envision his dog pursuing a number of different activities and adventures. No one else seems to really be telling him what happened. Perhaps his doggie's gone to work for a dog treat manufacturer or is finally eating all the chocolates and other forbidden treats he ever wanted. Pondering all the different journeys and experiences his dog could be enjoying helps to ease the pain of having his dog gone forever. And finally, he understands that his dog and the memories of his pet will always remain in his heart.
In a compassionate, humorous and gentle tale, Tracy Wayland's imaginative picture book on loss, Where Did My Doggie Go?, addresses the devastation a child may feel when their best friend and constant companion dies. This inexplicable and harsh fact of life is handled via the imagination and draws upon the child's memory of that beloved, and now departed, friend. Wayland's prose is whimsical and sweet as she offers the doggie's grand adventures and culinary feasts as possibilities, and her illustrations are lively, brightly colored, and apt to produce a smile even in the darkest moments of grief. Where Did My Doggie Go? Coping With Grief Through Imagination is thoughtful, gentle and kind, and it's highly recommended.
