“Ten little fingers, ten perfect toes, fill our hearts with love that overflows.” When You Were In My Belly is a children’s picture book by Kara Michelle Liu. There are three couples who are very excited that they are going to become parents in a few months. There are so many preparations that must be made before the big day. The journey to parenthood begins with doctors' visits, decorating lovely nurseries at their homes, shopping for cute baby clothes, strollers, and cribs, and reading parenting books. Of course, having a healthy baby is what everyone wants, so the mothers-to-be make sure they eat all the right foods that are wholesome and exercise regularly. Selecting the perfect name isn’t always easy, but it’s fun. The parents also spend time entertaining their unborn babies by speaking to them and sharing assorted music so the children will bond much better with them after they’re born.
Making a child know much they are loved and are precious to their parents, even before they are born, is important. Kara Michelle Liu’s picture book is just ideal to show them as it demonstrates how much parents looked forward to having children, preparations made to make them comfortable, and the fun, exciting activities eventually they would do as families. The beautiful colorful illustrations by Hanji Kim connect with this short read. When You Were In My Belly is an educational picture book story that teachers, as well as parents, will take pleasure in sharing with young readers. It is recommended.
