When God Calls by Dawn Thomas is a book that will help anyone who is suffering from grief or personal loss. A death in the family can have a serious impact on the lives of everyone, but the people closest to them have the hardest time accepting their loved one is gone. It is not easy and overcoming grief can take its toll on the mind, body, and soul of a grieving person. Author Dawn Thomas shares her experience when she lost her son and how she overcame it one day at a time. This book emphasizes finding peace, calmness that soothes the soul, and helps you remember the departed loved one fondly.

The book itself has a very smooth and easy-to-understand narrative. Her choice of words is very careful, considerate and exceptionally humble. Reading it was like talking to a friend who knew and understood me, which is saying a lot as grief is something universal yet very personal. Everyone goes through grief in their own way and the way the author speaks about it makes me believe that everyone can find some solace in this book. I liked how she does not give you a step-by-step routine to follow; she offers answers that she searched for herself. The fact that Dawn Thomas shared her own grief, her reason to look for answers and her need to share her discovery with other people makes this book very good. I believe this can help so many people, regardless of age, gender, and religion. Beautiful and considerate.

When God Calls is a work of non-fiction focusing on getting through difficult times, and was penned by author Dawn Thomas. Based on the harrowing personal experiences of the author, who lost her son far before his time, this introspective self-help book examines hardship and coping strategies, whilst also taking a look at how faith can help us and provide comfort during the hardest times of our lives. The book explores important and poignant ideas about death and the afterlife, answering the eternal questions of life according to the Christian faith and what it teaches us. The intention is to offer comfort to those who need it most.

When author Dawn Thomas first writes of the loss of her son Ryan, the overwhelming sense of grief in the narration is truly palpable. Readers seeking self-help and grief counseling from this book are sure to understand the authenticity of the author and her personal experiences of such harrowing times. What follows is a truly incredible transformation in both narrative style and thinking, as Thomas takes us through her own stages of change and confronts the most important and frightening questions that many of us ask ourselves in those moments when we have lost someone special to us. Thomas’s comforting and fluent prose is sure to put readers at ease throughout her guidance, and the biblical passages and ideas which have been selected for the book are well organized and well thought out as a means to explain healing. I would certainly recommend When God Calls to any person of Christian faith who needs a reminder during a difficult time.

Dawn Thomas’ nonfiction book, When God Calls, is a Bible-oriented take on how to deal with the loss of a loved one and the questions that might arise from that loss and the hardship that accompanies it. Within the book are specific examples of scriptures and sermons that one might use to take comfort, solace, and gain a better understanding. The voice of the book is one that comes from experience, as Dawn Thomas experienced the sudden loss of a young adult son. One of the quotes in the book that resonated with me the most was: ‘“When God calls, there is no need to ask, “Why?” as there is nothing in my humanness that could ever comprehend the answer.”’

When God Calls by Dawn Thomas really made me wake up and take notice while reading it. As I am not one who lives by the Bible, but believes in God and respects the relationship that I have with Him, what I read was full of passion and utter conviction. It is not every day that you come across a book such as When God Calls, and although I may have differing beliefs on where we go when we cross from this life into another, I deeply respect the words that are in this book. When God Calls is about so much more than the grief one experiences over the loss of a loved one; it is a book that will help continue your journey and ease the pain with the words that it contains.

When God Calls by Dawn Thomas is a book that addresses one of the existential questions that haunt the human mind; the enigma of death. Having lost a son, the author suffered a devastating sense of loss and the pain associated with grief. In this book, Dawn Thomas shares her personal experience with death and addresses key questions in a way that will allow readers to reconcile with the painful experience. Written for people who are experiencing loss or illness in their family, the book contains a strong message of hope that will not only help readers to survive loss but to find meaning in the process.

This is a timely book for me and I could identify with the emotions, the fear and pain the author evokes as I recently watched my father suffer and die from cancer. Writing in a clear, confident, and compassionate tone, the author suggests how readers can shift their perspective, proposes what to focus on, and outlines a path to healing that will help them to stay connected with their loved one while discovering hope in a situation that, in the main, robs them of happiness. When God Calls by Dawn Thomas addresses the question of grief and death in a very practical way. The writing is great, the style conversational and engaging, and the message uplifting. Here is a book that offers the healing therapy that readers need to deal with loss. The author keeps it real and crafts a compelling message right from the heart. A must-read!
